Clever Service Serves Up Literary Teasers Using Twitter or RSS Technology
North Haven, CT (May 2, 2007) -- TwitterLit.com offers visitors and subscribers literary teasers twice a day. At midnight and noon GMT Debra Hamel, the site's creator, posts the first line of a book--without the author's name or the book title, but with a link to Amazon.com so curious viewers can click to see where the quote comes from.
What sort of lines are posted on TwitterLit? Here are two recent samples:
04-30-07 PM: "I am in a medical laboratory at the Central Intelligence Agency, waiting to pee in a cup."
05-01-07 AM: "I wake up on the fattest day of my life, January 20, 2003."
In addition to being posted on TwitterLit.com itself, the teasers are made available for subscription. The first lines are "tweeted" to subscribers on Twitter, the increasingly popular social networking tool that is like a cross between instant messaging and blogging. After opening an account at Twitter.com, users can subscribe to TwitterLit by adding it as a "friend": http://www.twitter.com/twitterlit. Viewers can also subscribe to the site's feed using an RSS reader such as Bloglines or Google Reader.
